A NEW FRONTIER
With our expert guides, we explore Mongolia's far west, on an awe-inspiring trek on foot or on horseback through the rarely visited Altai Tavn Bogd National Park.
We journey over lush tundra and open steppe, in a hidden world among Kazakh nomads who continue their 1,000-year old tradition of hunting with Golden Eagles. Eddie & Amy Frank mapped this awe-inspiring trek through western Mongolia after a 3,000 mile scouting expedition in 2006.
If you are planning to ride a horse on the trek, horse riding skills are necessary. If you are planning only to hike, no riding skills are needed.

ALTAI TAVAN BOGD NATIONAL PARK
In Mongolia's far western corner lies a hidden refuge; a lost world concealed by open steppe, turquoise lakes and towering ranges with glaciated peaks. As part of the Altai-Sayan Ecoregion, the Altai Tavn Bogd National Park is an empire of mountains, green meadows, tundra, lakes, valleys, forest and marsh.
It was only established as a national park in 1996, and encompasses 2,456 square miles. The Altai region is considered to be one of the planet's most significant refuges of biodiversity. It is a last stronghold for animals such as argali, elk, snow leopard, wolf, ibex, fox, marmot, brown bear, lynx and Saker falcon.

AWESOME HABITAT
You can ride a horse or hike on the trek for 11 days of wonder. We journey through the pristine alpine terrain. Glaciers rumble in the distance, frothy white rivers plunge down through emerald green meadows into smoothly scalloped lakes, and nomadic Kazakh people welcome us into their warm and colorful gers (nomad tents). We witness traditional Kazakh games on horseback - and sometimes get invited to traditional ceremonies.
