HORSERIDE & TREK MONGOLIA

A NEW FRONTIER

With our expert guides, we explore Mongolia's far west, on an awe-inspiring trek and horseride through the spectacular and rarely visited Altai Tavn Bogd National Park. No horse skills are required. We'll teach you everything you'll need to know.

We journey over lush tundra and open steppe, in a hidden world among Kazakh nomads who continue their 1,000-year old tradition of hunting with Golden Eagles. Eddie Frank mapped this awe-inspiring trek through western Mongolia after a 3,000 mile expedition in 2006.

ALTAI TAVN BOGD NATIONAL PARK

In Mongolia's far western corner lies a hidden refuge, a lost world concealed by open steppe, turquoise lakes and towering ranges with glaciated peaks. As part of the Altai-Sayan Ecoregion, the Altai Tavn Bogd National Park is an empire of mountains, green meadows, tundra, lakes, valleys, forest and marsh.

It was only established as a national park in 1996, and encompasses 2,456 square miles. The Altai region is considered to be one of the planet's most significant refuges of biodiversity. It is a last stronghold for animals such as argali, elk, snow leopard, wolf, ibex, fox, marmot, brown bear, lynx and Saker falcon.

TREKKING DIVERSITY

We spend 11 days trekking on horseback and foot through pristine alpine terrain. Glaciers rumble in the distance, frothy white rivers plunge down through emerald green meadows into smoothly scalloped lakes, and nomadic Kazakh people welcome us into their warm and colorful gers (nomad tents). We will witness traditional Kazakh games, which consist of exciting horse-riding games. And invariably we get invited to traditiional ceremonies.

AMAZING CLIMATE

You will experience bright sun, soft mist, fiery sunsets, starlit nights, and possibly rain and snow in the mountain pass.

You will sleep in cozy tents, tucked away under the sprawling canopy of a billion stars.

EXPERT CREW

Our support crew consists of Tusker's head guide, our local Kazakh guide named Dosjan; a cook; camp assistants, 6 camels, and your own horse. We will be camping for the entire trek, bookended by hotels and traditional Mongolian Ger camps.
