206 miles south of the equator sits Africa's tallest mountain - Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the largest free-standing mountain in the world, and the fourth highest of the seven summits - 19,341-ft/5,895-m.
Even if you've never climbed a mountain, Kilimanjaro's summit is within your reach. It is one of the most exciting challenges you will ever face and an unforgettable adventure. If you're in good health and great shape, you can make it. There are a few routes to choose from - some shorter and some longer, but all these routes take you through some of the most spectacular landscapes on earth.
Your climbing team consist of expert guides, professionally trained cooks, and a crew of dedicated porters who set up camp. The guides are professionally and medically trained with decades of Kilimanjaro guiding experience. The finely tuned, well-organized team means your climb will be a safe and successful one.
Tusker Trail has contracted with the Culinary Institute of America (C.I.A) to train our cooks. The meals you enjoy on the climb are a mixture of European, Asian and African styles, designed by the C.I.A. to accommodate the demanding nutritional needs of a high altitude trek.
Very few companies run their own climbs on Kilimajaro. This is important in order to control the quality and safety of your climb. Most companies subcontract to a local operator, and then pass on their markup to you. By subcontracting your climb, these companies sacrifice control of the safety and standards of your climb. Tusker Trail runs its own climbs from start to finish, and does not subcontract.
