Iceland was not at the top of my bucket list, but it should have been. So when an old travel buddy called me up ready for adventure in the Land of Fire and Ice, I jumped at the chance. 18 months and a second official scouting expedition later (this time with my wife Amy) Tusker’s newest ICELAND ADVENTURE is real and it’s happening in summer 2015.

Here’s the top 5 reasons why this Iceland Adventure should be at the top of your bucket list:

1. Trekking

Trekking in Iceland

Iceland is a geological wonderland making it the perfect place for trekking, especially in the Fjallabak highlands located in Vatnajökull National Park. This national park covers 13% of Iceland. Few places in the world exhibit such a wide range of natural phenomena, where the battle between fire and ice rages on.

2. Glacier hiking

Glaciers are one of the gems of Icelandic nature. Exploring them on foot with a skilled guide is a fascinating introduction to the unique world of glaciers, a big part of Iceland’s natural history.

3. Nature Baths

Mývatn Nature Baths in Iceland

Iceland is littered with hot springs as a result of geothermal activity. The renowned nature baths of Mývatn is the ideal place to channel your inner Viking. The alkaline water is pure, unique and soothing, as it contains a large amount of minerals, with temperatures ranging from 97-104 degrees F.

4. Icelandic Horses

Iceland horse riding

The Icelandic horse has been in Iceland since the 9th century. It is unique because it has five gaits, and an incredible ability to cross rough terrain, yet rides as smoothly as a Cadillac. It’s magical and unlike any horse you have ever ridden before.

5. Whale Watching

Seeking out the gentle giants of the ocean with the wind at your face is like nothing on earth. Husavik Harbor is the whale-watching capital of the North Sea.
