Tusker Trail is an expedition company founded by Eddie Frank and built over more than five decades of leading remote expeditions across Africa and high-altitude environments worldwide.

Eddie Frank was born and raised in Africa, shaped early by a landscape where distance, isolation, and self-reliance weren’t ideas – they were daily reality.

Those early years built instincts where the land demanded discipline, and constant change.

Long before Mt. Kilimanjaro became its primary focus, those early years were defined by remote trans-Africa expeditions –  logistically complex journeys where terrain, distance, and self-sufficiency determined the outcome.

There were no fixed systems to rely on. Every decision carried weight. Every mistake compounded.

That foundation carried forward onto Mt. Kilimanjaro, where season after season of guiding revealed a different kind of challenge – not distance, but physiology.

At altitude above 10,000 feet most people feel the effects of lower oxygen pressure. Sleep fragments. Appetite shifts. Adaptation rates vary from person to person. What works for one climber may not work for the next.

Over time, one truth became clear: success at altitude is not driven by strength or willpower alone. It is determined by how the expedition responds to the human body as conditions change.

In response, Tusker developed the Tusker Expedition Standard – a structured expedition system built around progressive acclimatization, medically trained leadership, and decisions driven by physiology, not schedule.

WHY IT MATTERS NOW
