SUPPORT ON KILIMANJARO

At Tusker, we boast an impressive 18-member operations crew based in Moshi, Tanzania. We’ve been a staple in the community for decades, and Moshi is where we call home. It’s where our local team operates, where we store our top-of-the-line camp and gear, and where we base our operations for our world-renowned climbs and ongoing community support.

Our onsite operations manager and crew are second to none in handling your in-country transport, lodgings, and pre-climb preparation. But that’s not all – our Moshi staff are an invaluable source of knowledge about the region, the town, and the local community. They’ll accompany you to the local markets, ensuring you have an enriching experience. When it comes to finding the best handicrafts or the most delicious food, we’ve got you covered. With Tusker, you can expect nothing less than excellence.

PORTER & CAMP SUPPLY

Kilimanjaro’s porters are the backbone of the climbing industry, yet they are often overlooked. They carry the weight of the climb on their shoulders, and do so with a smile. Tusker, with 48 years of experience in the local climbing community, understands the importance of these of our climbing crew. Eddie and Amy Frank, the owners and guides, have made it their lifelong mission to ensure the welfare of their crew and the community.

In Nepal, we employ a local Sherpa team, led by a Sherpa guide and accompanied by a medical guide from Kilimanjaro . Our trusty yaks carry the bulk of your gear. In Mongolia, your crew will consist of local guides and horsemen, who tend to the camels that transport your entire camp. On our Greenland trek, the equipment is transported by our boat team, leaving you free to trek with just a day-pack and your guides. Tusker ensures that the local staff are treated with respect and fairness, and that the communities we visit are positively impacted.

MONGOLIA TREK

Mongolian nomads have mastered the art of survival in these remote landscapes for centuries, and their reliance on camels as pack animals is as timeless as the mountains themselves. With their sturdy frames and surefooted strides, these magnificent creatures effortlessly navigate the rocky paths, carrying our tents, cooking equipment, and supplies with grace and ease.

As we trek alongside our trusty camel companions, the vastness of the Altai Mountains unfolds before us, a panorama of snow-capped peaks and sweeping valleys. The air is crisp with the scent of larch trees and wildflowers, and the melody of rivers and streams fills our ears.

At camp, under a canopy of stars, we relax, sharing stories and laughter as we savor the simple joys of camaraderie and connection. Thanks to our camel companions, every moment in this untamed wilderness is a true adventure.
