The Marangu route is the oldest on Kilimanjaro. It’s a direct route from the east, where you sleep in cozy huts along the way. This is the original route Tusker climbed in 1977 and still remains the most popular route on Kilimanjaro. It’s one of our favorites.

This route, due to it's longer trail, allows you to acclimatize to the altitude. It also gives you extra time to enjoy the spectacular mountain environment. Plus you can choose to sleep in the crater, below the summit, which then gives you a chance to summit twice - once on your ascent, and again on the descent.
Lemosho is not highly traveled but is one of the more scenic routes up Kilimanjaro.
