You can boil your Kilimanjaro victory down to one major thing - EXPERIENCE. Tusker Trail has been leading climbs up Kilimanjaro for - years.
Tusker's founding guide, Eddie Frank "discovered" Kilimanjaro on his first trans-Africa expedition in 1977. Since that first encounter he has led - climbs up the mountain and built Tusker Trail's rock-solid reputation around those climbs.
-
In addition to his multiple climbs, Eddie has crossed the Sahara Desert 33 times. He has hunted with the Pygmies, dined with dictators, survived African jails as well as a handful of military coups, and has also trained the US Special Forces in high altitude climbing.
Take an adventure now on Tusker's Legacy Adventure Timeline - an exciting interactive tool that takes you back in time, chronicling Tusker’s deep experience over the past - years.

The Tanzania government has only allowed a handful of overseas companies to run their own climbs on Kilimanjaro.
Tusker Trail is one of them.
This means that most companies selling Kilimanjaro climbs are in fact booking agencies, not climbing companies. These booking agencies subcontract your climb to a local company.
This means they pass you off to someone else once you land in Africa.
Here’s where the problem is.
Let’s say you sign up with an agency. You spend time building a good relationship. Then you fly to Africa.
Bam!
Now you have to start all over again with a new company.
The climbing company. And you know nothing about them.
- Have they trained their guides well?
- Are the guides safety fanatics?
- How do they evacuate you?
- Do they use the latest equipment?
- What do they feed you?
- How do they treat their crew?
These are all real concerns.
You have to trust that your agency made a solid choice in climbing companies, otherwise you’re stuck.
Generally, booking agencies grind the local companies down in price, so they can increase their profit margin. Corners must be cut somewhere. And they may be compromising your safety and climbing standards.
And as your agent is not on your climb they cannot adjust to your climbing needs on a moment-to moment basis.
This doesn't work well if you have an emergency.
It's best to book your climb directly with a highly experienced company like Tusker.
With our own climbing operation on Kilimanjaro we are directly responsible for your safety.
We are also directly responsible for the well-being of our crew, which translates into a successful climb.
That’s why it’s important to talk to the people who are running your climb.
There’s a lot at stake
The minute you contact our US office, you're talking to a guide.
So you are way ahead.
While there are some agencies that do choose wisely, it’s always best to know your climbing company ahead of time – to ensure success, and your own peace of mind.
