Tusker Trail has partnered with the Culinary Institute of America to train our Kilimanjaro chefs. We also work side-by-side with the top chefs at the Institute to create our well planned menus. When designing our menu we focus not only on variety and great taste, but on the demanding nutritional needs of our climbers and crew.

Trekking to altitude has inherent risks. Over 40 years on Kilimanjaro has taught us to pay close attention to these risks. Consequently we have designed a special Kilimanjaro high altitude medical course for our guides. The course trains them to deal with the specific challenges of Kilimanjaro's high altitude and cold environment.
Our medically trained guides monitor your health every step of the way. If you require a helicopter evacuation, you are covered by RIPCORD, our air evacuation company of note.
***Tusker climbers receive an especially low rate for an evacuation policy.
RIPCORD was right there alongside us during the Nepal earthquake in 2015. With their help we evacuated our entire group back home quickly, efficiently and safely.
Tusker uses more guides per group than any company.
The number of guides on your climb depends on your group size and ranges from 2-6. If you're climbing on your own you'll have your own personal guide.

4 decades of climbing Kilimanjaro has taught us that the best gear can make or break a climb on our camping routes.
On our camping routes you'll stay in all-weather walk-in tents with air/foam mattresses. On the Marangu route, you'll stay in cosy mountain huts. On all our routes our guides use comprehensive safety equipment, such as oxygen, portable altitude chamber, and medical monitoring tools.
Tusker's modern climbing gear is the most durable and the toughest on the planet. On our camping routes you’ll also enjoy multiple hot showers during your climb.

None of our climbs would be possible without our porters.
They are the backbone of our climbs and make sure all your gear and food get to camp on time.
There are usually about 48 porters that carry the food and gear for a group of 12 climbers. That gives you an idea of how much gear we bring up to ensure a safe and comfortable climb.
